The Top 100 Songs You've (Probably) Never Heard - 2007

Shake It Up Şekerim
Kenan Doğulu
Turkey
This effort from Turkish performer Kenan Doğulu certainly sounds like something one would be subjected to while listening to top 40 radio. The style is modern with a Turkish twist, which would help it stand out from similar songs. The lyrics, while unfortunate (see: “Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time; I got lots of candy to make you mine”), are at least painless, mostly. If you need further proof that this is the kind of thing that belongs on MTV, just watch the video.

The Top 100 Songs You've (Probably) Never Heard - 2007

Drop Dead
MissMatch
Sweden
The song at number 79 certainly falls into the “so bad, it’s good” category. It’s catchy, but its lyrics are, well…unfortunate. (How many women do you know that compare themselves to dogs using one painfully long extended metaphor?) That being said, the song has a few redeeming qualities; for example, it’s educational. Do you know what a panting canine sounds like? If not, the ladies of MissMatch would be more than happy to demonstrate. However, the thing that really makes this whole experience awesome is the choreography. It’s exactly like what I’d always imagined dancing would look like if choreographed by a student filmmaker (Jerky movements, strange costumes, takes itself too seriously to be taken too seriously, etc.).
